Terms of service

1. The service

We list hackathons with the details we have been able to confirm: where and when they happen, what they offer, and how to apply. Listings are maintained by us and, where an organizer has claimed their event, by that organizer. We work to keep them accurate but they can be incomplete or out of date. Always confirm dates, eligibility and deadlines with the hackathon itself before you travel or apply.

2. Accounts

You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email, or with GitHub. There are no passwords. Keep access to your email address: it is how you get back in. One person, one account. You are responsible for what is done while signed in as you, so sign out on shared devices.

3. Linking Devpost

To claim certificates you link your Devpost profile by placing a phrase we give you in your public Devpost bio. That proves you control the profile. By linking, you let us read the public parts of that profile (projects, submissions, prizes and hackathons entered) and refresh them from time to time while it stays linked. You may unlink at any time from your profile page, which removes the imported data that is not part of an issued certificate.

Never place the phrase in a profile you do not own, and never try to link a profile that is not yours.

4. Certificates

A certificate records that a named person’s project received a listed prize at a listed hackathon, based on the results published on Devpost or on a winner list the organizer sent us. It is a record of a published result. It is not an endorsement by the hackathon, its host institution, or its sponsors, and it does not certify skills.

Certificates are issued in the full name you give us, which is locked after the first one. Each carries an id and a link that anyone can open to check it. You may hide a certificate from your public profile; the link itself keeps working, because that is what makes it verifiable.

We may revoke or remove a certificate if the underlying result changes, if it was claimed by the wrong person, if the name on it is not yours, or if it was obtained by misusing the service. A revoked certificate stays online marked as revoked, so anyone holding the link learns it no longer stands.

5. Organizers

Organizers who are invited to manage a listing may edit its details and register the signature that appears on certificates. You may only accept access to a hackathon you genuinely represent, and you are responsible for the accuracy of what you publish through us, including any winner list you provide.

6. Acceptable use

Do not impersonate anyone, claim results that are not yours, interfere with the service, scrape it at a rate that affects others, or use it to harass anyone. We may suspend or close accounts that do.

7. Names, logos and content

Hackathon names, marks and logos belong to their owners. We show them to identify events, not to suggest affiliation or endorsement. If you own a mark shown here and want it changed or removed, contact us and we will act promptly. Data you import from Devpost remains subject to Devpost’s terms.

8. No warranty; limitation of liability

The service is provided as is, without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of the site or reliance on a listing or certificate, including missed deadlines or travel booked on incorrect information. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

9. Changes and ending

We may change the service or these terms. Material changes are announced on this page with a new date. You may stop using the service at any time and ask us to delete your account (see the privacy policy). We may end or suspend access for breach of these terms.
